How do I clean my shin guards?

Qusetions: My shin guards are a little bit stinky. I cleaned the plastic piece, but I never know ways to clean the ankle guards. they've some sort of challenging materials within and I never know if hand washing it with soap and h2o will mess it up. How can I clean the ankle guard piece without having messing it up?
